Hello, my name is Heather Nielsen. I have an accounting and tax practice in central New Jersey. I opened this practice in late 2015, after a 15-year absence from the workforce that I chose to take to raise my five children. Now that they are more independent and most of them fully grown, it is when we felt to be back in the accounting profession, and doing those things that I'm very passionate about, and that is helping people with their businesses and their income taxes.

So when I came…before I came to Next Level Firms and Andrew Argue, I was a classically trained CPA. Received my BS in accounting, worked in the private sector and then in the public sector of accounting, and earned my CPA license in the state of California. Working in public accounting, for those of you who know what I'm talking about when I talk about billable hours and percentage of billable hours.

Always being able to be billed out at a very high rate and a very high percentage of your time being billed to clients. It was a little bothersome to me and that I felt like while I was doing honest work, I wasn't necessarily adding value to a client or helping them grow their bottom-line. I felt mostly the work that I did was more of a compliance and check-the-box nature. And that wasn't really the reason I got into accounting in the first place.

So when I stumbled on to Andrew Argue and his own discovery in that we needed to learn the art of sales. We needed to learn the art of selling your services, selling the value that you can bring to a client, and helping the client grow their business. I was very excited about that. Excited to see that someone was as passionate about that as I was, and excited to see that there was a community already growing and developing around these same concepts that Andrew was talking about. And so it became a very easy decision for me to sign up with Next Level Firms and to begin participating.

Shortly after that, about three weeks after I signed up, my father passed away, and left my mother in a very bad financial predicament. And I have spent the last five six months helping her through some very difficult times which she was not at all prepared to deal with. Finances and accounting not being her strong suit, it has fallen on me to help her through all of these things. And the thing that has kind of kept me going is being able to participate as I can with the Facebook community, the Next Level firm Facebook community, and also in the weekly online discussions that we have with Andrew.

I'm learning so much, and I am feeding on the passion that people have for starting up their practices, for selling services, for moving the accounting profession in a new direction that it needs to go in. So I would say that that tie to that community has helped me get through this difficult time with my mum, and has helped me just stay focused knowing that as soon as I have these issues ironed out that I will be able to jump right back into the community, and have the level of support from that community, and Andrew, that I need to take my firm in the direction that it needs to go.

So for those that might be sitting on the sidelines, wondering should you make the jump, should you participate? I would say yes, just do it. There is a spot for you, and there's a place for you with your ideas, with the services that you have that you can provide, and I think you will find that you will be a part of a great community of support. One that is driving the conversation about accounting and the accounting profession in a new and exciting direction. And I think that you'll find that you'll enjoy being a part of that conversation, and enjoy being on the front end of that exciting new frontier, that that direction is…that the accounting profession is moving. So, I would encourage you to sign up today if you haven't already.

Thank you so much for listening and I hope to see you in the Next Level firm community. Bye.
